About Expressive Art Therapy
Expressive arts therapy is an intermodal arts-based approach to therapy that supports individuals in self-exploration and discovery, connecting to inner resources, healing and growth through a process of play and creative expression.
Therapy Group Goals
The group's goals are to (1) cultivate awareness and acceptance of our bodies, minds and feelings, write new stories about ourselves and anxiety, and establish an embodied sense of fierce OKness; (2) support group members to harness the power and wisdom of their feelings, clearly articulate their wants, needs, insecurities and values, know their gifts, and take effective action in their lives; and (3) nourish supportive relationships and a sense of true belonging within the group.
Who Might Benefit
Participants who have done some previous therapeutic work may benefit most from this group. Using the expressive arts as a therapeutic tool can be an intense personal process and it poses potential emotional risks. It can often bring forth unpleasant memories and feelings and can be a difficult experience. As with many therapy groups, a participant may feel worse before they feel better.
Eligibility Criteria
Registrants must meet all of the following criteria in order to be considered for participation:
You reside in Ontario, Canada;
You are willing to pause your involvement in all non-therapy programs led by Steph Drouin, Pekhna Kaur and Renee Vroom for a minimum of 6 months (if applicable); AND
You do not have a personal relationship with Steph Drouin, Pekhna Kaur or Renee Vroom.
We are so sorry in advance to disappoint those of you who do not meet these criteria! If you are in need of a therapy group, please be in touch. We would be happy to refer you to other free and low-cost offerings from the CREATE Institute and around the world.
